The only negatives I have found are the small stuff. The menu controls are very sluggish in responding.
Other than that I really like the unit, saves lots of space and output quality is great. When selecting "menu" to do any of the programing functions it takes quite a while for the menu to come up and every selection you make after that takes a few seconds to register/respond.
This product is well worth the price. If I record something it does something to the clock to throw it off time.
I'm a big fan of Samsung electronics. The picture and sound quality are great.
Mine doesn't keep time.
We were extremely angry.Phillips is making the only unit that will still record VHS - and play. You don't know you haven't got the same SAMSUNG unit - made a few years ago. It's okay - if you just want to play something. Anyone that buys this - should know - this doesn't record. We had to buy that one and ship it - will keep the player in case we lose our exiting equipment. We bought this for an elderly person - in order they could record their "shows" - and found after trying to install - it doesn't connect into the TV in order to do this. Talking VHS portion of the unit. So if you are buying it - it only plays existing DVD's and VHS's - NO RECORDING FAVORITE SHOWS.We were very angry and this information doesn't show up on the "fine print".
You would think that the VCR signal could be converted into a digital signal and sent through the HDMI also, but NOT. You do have to hook up the VCR and DVD player seperately. Overall, a good buy with an easy to use menu and great picture quality. The DVD player didn't work on the first one I got, but Amazon was quick to make it right by sending me another. The new one works as expected for the money spent.
The remote is easy to use, not complicated at all. When in pause mode (vcr) after 5 min it will start to play again. Thinking about getting a second one for future use. The player works great. It rewinds & fast forwards very fast & has a counter for the VCR when fast forwarding, it counts by the hour on the tapes.
I opted to return it to Amazon. I spent about 1/2 hour with tech support and they told me to send it back for repair. That process was simple and straightforward, a benefit of buying from Amazon.Just a general suggestion: wean yourself off VCR tapes (I immediately replaced $50 of children's videos my son wants to keep with DVDs). My old VCR was beginning to "eat" tapes, and I wanted a product that would combine a good DVD and a VCR player. After extensive study, I warned my wife that finding a good VCR player is a crap shoot, but this model seemed the best choice.I LOST.The VCR player could fast forward and rewind, but WOULD NOT PLAY.
